Meet the Team
Ithamar Jotkowitz - Founder and Clinical Director
Dr. Ithamar Jotkowitz, PT, DPT, CAMT has been a licensed physical therapist for over a decade. After earning his physical therapy degree in Melbourne, Australia, he pursued his clinical doctorate in New York and received the Certification in Advanced Manipulative Therapy, the first and currently only physical therapist in Massachusetts to have obtained this accreditation.
Ithamar has treated a wide variety of orthopedic, sports, and post-surgical conditions. His experience includes managing and supervising a number of large rehabilitation clinics and departments in Australia, New York City and Boston. Additionally, Ithamar has lectured at national conferences; been published in peer reviewed journals; mentored PT students in clinic; and was a faculty member at Northeastern University’s . Ithamar has worked with professional and amateur athletes, as well as “weekend warriors” and is committed to rehabilitating each of his patients to his/her specific goals, whether that be returning to work, sports or the regular activities of daily living. As an avid runner, Ithamar has a special interest in running rehabilitation and to compliment this he recently expanded his clinical knowledge by obtaining advanced training in exercise physiology and now provides clinical Resting Metabolic Rate and VO2 Max testing on site at Outback PT.
He lives in Boston with his wife, 2 sons and 2 daughters. In his free time, Ithamar can be found running along the Charles river or another local trail as he prepares for his next Marathon.
Adam Izzicupo - Senior Physical Therapist
Dr Adam Izzicupo, PT, DPT, a Boston area native, attended Northeastern University where he received his BS in Rehabilitation Sciences and Doctorate in Physical Therapy. Upon graduating, Adam immediately began working in an outpatient orthopedic setting, and continues to pursue additional examination and treatment approaches in an effort to give his patients the best possible treatments and outcomes. He also works in acute care physical therapy, giving him a unique perspective in the rehabilitation process, and an understanding of the broad spectrum of physical therapy.
Adam’s interest in orthopedics stems from a long history in athletics, particularly ice hockey, field hockey, and distance running. He was part of the 2008 Northeastern University field hockey National Championship team, and ran his first marathon, the Marine Corps Marathon, in October of 2013.
Cara Dewey - Senior Physical Therapist
Cara Dewey, MSPT has been a physical therapy practitioner for over a decade. Before joining the Outback team she worked as a staff physical therapist for 12 years at a large state-wide medical facility where she earned several awards, most notably, “physical therapist of the year.” In 2011, she worked to obtain a sizable Foundation grant to implement a fall prevention program for seniors. Cara has extensive experience with treatment of various orthopedic diagnoses as well as pre- and post-natal care. She is proficient in instrument-assisted soft tissue mobilization, and has undergone training in several manual techniques, including pre-clinical training in Australia where she was first exposed to the Australian manual therapy philosophy.
Cara is a graduate of Boston University where she received her BS in Health Studies in 2000 and MS in PT in 2002. A Massachusetts native, Cara lives in Boston with her husband and twin boys. In her spare time she enjoys running with her hound mix, Darby.
Amanda McCarthy - Senior Patient Care Specialist
Amanda is a graduate of the exercise science program at Salem State University with a minor in psychology. Having exposure to PT all of her life, her interest has grown over the past few years and plans to attend the PTA program at NSCC beginning fall of 2019. Outside of work she enjoys vacationing and going out with family and friends, spending time outdoors and at the beach and taking care of her rescue dog Sally.
Cindy Velasquez-Patient Care Specialist
Cindy is local to Somerville. She lives with her husband and boxer dog, who love to be active together in their spare time. At UMass Boston, she recently completed coursework for a bachelors degree in Social Psychology.
Cindy's professional and volunteer experience has made her passionate about social services and customer care. She brings her positive attitude to Outback Physical Therapy in an effort to provide the highest level of patient care.
Brenna Black - Patient Care Specialist / Community Relations
Brenna grew up in Colorado where we she originally established her love and appreciation of the outdoors through activities such as hiking, mountain biking, and snowboarding. She has always had a desire to make a positive impact on people and was searching for the right way to be able promote and support the importance of living a healthy lifestyle as well.
After relocating to Massachusetts three years ago, she fell into a gym routine which helped her to discover that she could combine all of her passions by dedicating her time to PT. She is now currently working towards earning her degree as a PTA.
